‘Average athletes’ pulling down ‘old’ LeBron James amidst Lakers struggles, says Colin Cowherd
LeBron James has an average roster around him with the Los Angeles Lakers, hindering their chances of competing against top teams.
The Los Angeles Lakers have an average roster around LeBron James
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have struggled over the past eight games, where they have gone 2-6. Most notably, that stretch includes blowout losses to playoff teams and has seen the team slide down the standings.
The two wins were against other struggling or up and coming teams, suggesting the men in purple and gold are just hanging on to wins. In the offseason, their lack of activity saw some analysts suggest the team is, at best, fit to contend for a play in spot.
But after these games, other concerns have cropped up. Some questioned if JJ Redick‘s coaching philosophy is at fault. Veteran analyst Colin Cowherd observed how the players have been playing in these games and came up with this conclusion:
"The roster isn't good and LeBron's getting older. They have no chance to win a championship."@ColinCowherd on Lakers' 41-point loss to Heat pic.twitter.com/9gJhcUKHw1

The longtime analyst went on to suggest that the lack of upgrades has started to show its ugly side during this struggling period. If anything, he feels the Los Angeles Lakers front office are denying LeBron James the chance to compete.
Colin Cowherd criticizes LeBron James’ Lakers with Dallas Cowboys comparison
After suggesting that LeBron James does not have the help to beat standard playoff teams, Colin Cowherd went on to mention that they are nowhere equipped to beat the best teams in the league. He gave another argument comparing the team with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
Comparing LeBron with Dak Prescott, Colin Cowherd suggested the Los Angeles Lakers are overpaying for a soon to be 40 LeBron James. That high salary has affected their ability to bring in another star or a bunch of good players.
Cowherd feels that the Lakers are too top heavy to have a serious shot at beating title contending teams. That is just like the Dallas Cowboys are in the NFL, as he believes, with an average at best roster, their standards have lowered to that of an average team. They need better players if they are to raise that standard.
