Azeez Al-Shaair is now sitting at home waiting for his next chance to play this season. That suspension hit him hard, but what hit harder was the differing public opinion about him. Where some labeled the Houston Texans star a ‘dirty player’, others, such as Tom Brady, suggested it was not completely his fault.
Many were of the opinion that Azeez Al-Shaair made a dirty play that warranted a lengthy suspension. Some fans believe he should have been kept out as long as Trevor Lawrence was out. But the seven-time Super Bowl winner had a different opinion.
Coming from his two plus decades of playing experience, he called out the rise in quarterback runs. Tom Brady felt those are as much a contributor to such bad hits as is the defender who actually delivered the hit. He felt quarterbacks and offensive coordinators should be penalized as much as the defender to help balance the situation. When Shannon Sharpe read this out on Nightcap, he felt it was wrong of Brady.
Shannon Sharpe did not suggest that he thought Tom Brady was wrong in what he said. There have been discussions of late about quarterbacks using late sliding to hoodwink defenses. That itself makes it harder for defenders to stop, hence they resort to harder hits to stop the play. But Brady, saying it is ironic considering his past with rule changes.
Shannon Sharpe feels Tom Brady is speaking out of convenience
Football fans know Tom Brady as the greatest football player ever. But defensive players know the now 47-year-old broadcaster as the one who helped establish the ‘Brady Rule’ in football. The Hall of Fame tight end feels that is where the quarterback is wrong to talk about the Azeez Al-Shaair incident.
His reference to the Hispanic population in the country voting for Donald Trump is similar to how Brady talks about quarterbacks needing to take care of themselves. As in, when it was Brady’s time to play, all these rules benefitted him.
Now that he has finished playing, he might as well openly share what he truly thinks about it. Sharpe feels it is similar to the Hispanics wanting the border closed now that they are already inside the United States and living a good life.
