UFC 310 took place over the weekend as the final PPV card of the year. One of the more controversial results from the card saw Ciryl Gane take the decision win over Alexander Volkov. Moreover, Volkov was extremely unhappy about it. He called it a “bullsh*t decision,” but Dana White was also audibly shocked at what went down on the judge’s scorecards.
Footage from ESPN MMA on X shows White speaking to Volkov following the fight. The UFC CEO clearly told the Heavyweight division fighter “you got f***ed” when it came to the decision. Over the years, many UFC fighters have suffered losses due to controversial scorecards. At every point, the controversial decisions spoils the mood for all involved.
The baffling decision took away the chance for the Russian fighter to compete for the heavyweight title. He had a four-fight winning streak entering UFC 310. A win over Gane would have given him the title shot. However, the controversial decision took it away from him. Volkov expressed his feelings during the post-fight press conference.

The Russian fighter himself was visibly upset with the decision. His comments during the post fight presser indicates exactly why he believed he should’ve received the nod.
Ciryl Gane didn’t look like himself during the bout. He delivered a masterclass against Sergey Spivak at UFC Paris last year. However, Volkov figured Gane out with extremely wise decision-making during all three rounds.
When someone look at the stats from the fight itself and the damage on both, it’s easy to see why he would feel pretty aggrieved at the situation.
Fight Stats suggest Dana White was correct in his assessment
When it comes to the fight stats, Volkov appeared to have a slight advantage over his opponent. However, Gane did manage to get one more submission attempt and a couple more significant strikes over the Russian fighter.
When it came to output though, Volkov managed to record 105 total strikes during the fight to only 48 for the Frenchman. 43 of those were significant for Gane, as opposed to only 39 being classed as significant for Volkov.
Did Gane’s precision allow him to take the win? It is a possibility, but Volkov claimed his output and control time should’ve won him the bout.
In terms of takedowns, Volkov lead with 3 to Gane’s 2, with the Russian having a 75% success on his attempts compared to Gane’s 50%. Whilst that isn’t a huge difference, it’s another stat that Volkov could point to. A trilogy bout could happen next. However, it remains to be seen if Dana White and the UFC would want to book it immediately.
