McLaren headed into the Abu Dhabi with Ferrari on its back for the 2024 Constructors’ title. The British team led Maranello by 21 points. McLaren CEO Zak Brown admitted that he remained in panic till his drivers crossed the chequered flag.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri started from the front row. However, Piastri lost several positions after making contact with Max Verstappen. On the other hand, the two Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc were making gains. This escalated tensions and kept McLaren on its nerves.
Ultimately, Lando Norris won the race, handing McLaren its first teams’ title since 1998. Zak Brown mentioned that the past two hours were the worst time of his life. As the 53-year-old waited to hear the news of officially sealing the championship. Brown further praised Norris for his brilliant drive, while acknowledging that the team managed to deal with Piastri’s situation.
Zak Brown: That was the worst 2 hours of my life. Lando drove brilliant. Unfortunate what happened at the start with Oscar, but the team executed well.

Zak Brown to let Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri battle it out in 2025
The McLaren boss made it clear that the team aims to win both titles in 2025. Zak Brown cleverly mentioned that it depends on Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to figure out who wins the drivers’ championship. As Brown has previously allowed the two to race as per the famous ‘Papaya rules.’
Zak Brown: That race he (Lando) carried us. Next, we target the constructors and the drivers and we'll let Lando and Oscar figure that one out.

Certainly, the Woking-based team has accomplished a massive feat after a gap of 26 years. Zak Brown’s team would be hoping to carry this momentum next season. Though, rivals such as Red Bull and Ferrari will not be far behind in terms of performance.
