Max Verstappen successfully defended the Drivers’ title in 2024. On the other hand, Red Bull failed to even come second in the standings, following below winners McLaren and runners-up Ferrari. Milton Keynes will need to go back to the drawing board and understand how to bounce back for next season.

2024 was a rollercoaster of a season for Red Bull. Max Verstappen started the season strong with seven victories in the first ten races. However, this successive run soon ended with the Dutch driver going through a four-month winless streak.

Verstappen managed to make an impressive recovery in the final leg of the season to win the Drivers’ Championship. Unfortunately, Sergio Perez was nowhere close to the Dutch driver, leaving Red Bull exposed in the teams’ standings. Though, car problems did play a significant role in the Austrian team’s defeat.

Red Bull can no longer afford to ignore problems

The 2024 campaign saw Red Bull exposed as the team lost out to McLaren and Ferrari. The Austrian team realized that it had not noticed a major development flaw which originated way back in 2023. This revealed that the team had pursued the wrong path a year ago.

Max Verstappen’s incredible dominance in 2023 hid a lot of flaws for Red Bull. However, this season showed that the team had to address these shortcomings soon. The upcoming winter break would be crucial for Milton Keynes if it aims to get back to the front. Adrian Newey’s absence would undoubtedly have an impact as well.

The other issue for Red Bull was Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver was the only one in the Top 8 to not win a race this season. It is likely that Checo could get replaced for next year, which seems to be the only rational choice left for Milton Keynes. If someone like Liam Lawson replaces Perez, it could bring in new energy to the team and motivate the other side of the garage.

Milton Keynes has a few things to work on over the winter. Red Bull are one of the most efficient teams on the grid and would’ve already made progress in key areas. However, it remains to be seen if Max Verstappen’s squad can take back the Constructors’ Championship in 2025.
