The Abu Dhabi GP put forth some challenging situations for Max Verstappen, especially with the FIA. The Dutchman had been heavily penalized for causing a collision with Oscar Piastri heading into Turn 1 on the very first lap of the race. As a result, the 27-year-old was irritated and took an offensive jibe at the stewards for making this decision.

Helmut Marko sided with Max Verstappen following the latter’s offensive remarks of FIA’s stewarding. Marko reckoned that whatever the Dutchman said was in the heat of the moment. The drivers during such moments do not think diplomatically and speak their blunt thoughts. Hence, to fix these issues, the 81-year-old suggested maybe not broadcasting everything on live television.

Those are the emotions, and at that moment, you don’t exactly think diplomatically. Maybe we shouldn’t broadcast everything.

The radio messages are showcased to the public to further create a fuss on the issues. Marko pointed out that other intense sports like Football didn’t have a mic taped on the players. The 81-year-old was least interested in what the players blurted out while playing the sport, much like in Formula 1.

In football, not everyone has a microphone either. I don’t want to know what kind of comments are made there.

Helmut Marko demanded ‘more consistency’ for penalizing drivers

Max Verstappen’s offensive remarks haven’t provided the driver with a penalty yet due to a breach of the sport’s code of conduct. Helmut Marko noted that with certain stewards, the penalty would be heavier for Verstappen. However, this was the problem that needed to be addressed as Marko demanded more consistency in decision-making by the governing body.

With certain stewards, this penalty is usually heavier. But that is a problem that everyone has and that has often been mentioned: that more consistency would be better and also better for the sport.

The 2024 season was extremely difficult for Verstappen despite multiple race wins and a championship triumph. Red Bull will have to work very hard on improving their pace in the coming season.

The performance issues might cause the Dutchman to move away from continuing his career with Red Bull in Formula 1. The massive personnel change at Milton Keynes might cause the 2025 season to be yet another disappointment for the team.
