Every few years, F1 teams have to abide by new regulations by the FIA to shuffle up the grid. Though the current set of regulations were introduced in 2022 and Red Bull dominated since then, this year appeared as an anomaly as the team fell to third in the standings. With the next regulation reset lurking over the head, Red Bull supremo Christian Horner blamed F1 for changing rules when title fights got tough.
During the 2014-2021 regulation era (turbo-hybrid), Mercedes dominated the sport and Red Bull only managed to close up to the German giant when the previous set of regulations were on their dying run. Moreover, a similar trend has followed through the next regulation change cycle. The Austrian giant dominated the competitive scene but found itself tangled among rivals in the 2024 season.
This led Christian Horner to assert that FIA changes rules whenever things get spicy. The 2025 season is understood to feature a three-way fight for the title at the minimum. However, the progress made by teams would be reset as the new regulations lurk in the background from 2026 onwards.
On the other hand, the Briton explained the severity of the regulations change. With both chassis and engines being affected, this would be the largest regulation change in the history of the sport. Making the importance of manufacturers to hit the ground running quite crucial.
Red Bull needs to step up its game for the next season
While the 2024 season was a wake-up call for Red Bull, its biggest asset Adrian Newey would be leaving the team next year. The 65-year-old had been on a gardening leave and would join Aston Martin in early 2025.
Despite this, Horner looks at Newey’s departure as a challenge that the team needs to prove they can work without. The RB21 would be the first car since RB3 that would not have Newey’s designed elements. Leading the job of technical director, Pierre Wache quite intensive.
Thus, next year would probably witness a massive fight between top outfits like Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull. The 2025 F1 season will produce fireworks and it is surely going to prove to be a huge hit among the fans all over the globe.
