Reigning F1 World Champion, Max Verstappen has opened up as the subject of interest for a potential drive in the legendary 24 hours of Le Mans. Verstappen has been one of the best drivers in the world of F1 ever since his maiden championship win in 2021.
Max Verstappen has been an ardent fan of endurance racing and has also expressed his desire to race in Le Mans one day. The Dutch driver currently leads the F1 world championship by 56 points and has won six out of nine races this season.
Verstappen has claimed that he has been approached by several teams with the potential for the Dutch driver to drive in the 24 hours of Le Mans. However, the 26-year-old has vouched to pledge his allegiance to F1 as of now.
Of course, you get contacted by certain people, but it has to come at the right time and in the right way. I don't want to rush into a decision either. With those new cars, I think it will take at least another one or two years before it's all better understood because at the end of the day, it is still a Balance of Performance story and that makes it difficult.Max Verstappen via Motorsport
Max Verstappen has taken part in the virtual race of Le Mans as a member of Team Redline and continues to speculate about his interest in the prestigious race. But the Dutchman is also wary of not being in a rush for a decision, as he claims that it will take time for him to adjust to the race format of Le Mans.
Christian Horner reveals details about Sergio Perez’s new contract
Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner has provided a deeper insight into the contract extension of Sergio Perez. The Mexican is set to stay in Red Bull until the end of 2026 after he signed an extension before the Canadian GP.
They are all Red Bull drivers. We have decided to extend Checo for one more year, but in the meantime we also wanted to exercise the option of Yuki. He is doing great at RB at the moment. So yes, he will stay for another year. Well, 1+1=2, so it’s a two-year contract.Christian Horner said in an interview with Viaplay
Christian Horner revealed that the 1+1 clause in Sergio Perez‘s contract stands for flexibility in the hands of Red Bull in a scenario where the 34-year-old driver underperforms. Horner stated that there are multiple drivers under Red Bull, with Yuki Tsunoda as the top prospect of them all to fill the seat of the Milton-Keynes outfit if required.
The contract extension now stands as a major test for Sergio Perez, who has been underperforming this season and has not been a worthy pilot for the revered Red Bull seat. The six-time race winner will now try his best to change his outcomes in order to cement his spot with the team for the coming seasons.
