Jayden Daniels wasn’t even cleared to start for the Washington Commanders until a few hours before their game against the Chicago Bears. Washington fans should be glad that Dan Quinn chose to include the rookie quarterback in the squad because his last-ditch Hail Mary saved the day.

The Commanders trailed for the first time in the fixture after the Bears’ Roschon Johnson scored a touchdown with just under 30 seconds left on the clock. Quarterback Caleb Williams then hit tight end Cole Kmet for a successful two-point conversion, giving the Bears a slender lead.

Matt Eberflus thought his team was in the clear; however, the #2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft had one final trick up his sleeve. As the clock struck zero, Daniels knew that he had to go long or go home with a defeat.

Daniels threw the ball inside the Commanders’ endzone, which bounced off the pile of Bears defenders and into the waiting hands of veteran wide receiver Noah Brown for a Hail Mary touchdown.

The game ended 18-15 for the Washington franchise, and they lead the NFC East, courtesy of a 6-2 record after eight weeks of football.

Dan Quinn’s ecstatic reaction to Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary goes viral

Every victory warrants a celebration with equal vigor, and the Commanders’ head coach certainly has an abundance of it. More so after he almost witnessed his team blow it at the depths if it wasn’t for Daniels’ Hail Mary.

After the 23-year-old connected with Brown, Quinn knew that the Commanders had secured the win. After all the adversity and the suspense throughout the week regarding the young quarterback’s availability, the win was a sense of relief, and it showed in Quinn’s reaction as he stormed the field with his coaching staff to celebrate with his players.

One of Washington’s favorite sons also couldn’t contain his excitement. Star NBA player Kevin Durant shared his reaction on X (previously known as Twitter) right after Daniels completed the Hail Mary victory.

HAHAHHAA LETS GO, COMMANDERS.

Kevin Durant wrote

Jayden Daniels ended the game with 21 completions from 38 attempts for 326 yards and 1 Hail Mary touchdown, along with 8 rushes for 52 yards. It wasn’t his best, but it was enough for the commanders to win the game. Overall, Daniels has 127 completions for 1410 yards, 6 passing touchdowns, 66 carries for 372 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.

Brian Robinson Jr. lodged another brilliant outing as he rushed 16 times for 65 yards. Terry McLaurin caught 5 passes for 125 yards.
