Nyck de Vries is a Dutch racing driver who is set to compete for Scuderia AlphaTauri in Formula 1 for the 2023 season. He was born as Hendrik Johannes Nicasius de Vries on February 6, 1995, in Uitwellingerga, Netherlands. He is of Indonesian descent.
When did Nyck de Vries join Formula 1?
Nyck de Vries made his Formula 1 debut for Williams at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix and scored points – a P9 finish. However, he was not regularly contracted to the team – this opportunity came about as Alex Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis. De Vries was present in Monza, as he drove for Aston Martin in FP1 – which came through his association with Mercedes. His exploits that day proved enough for AlphaTauri to choose him as Pierre Gasly’s replacement.
What are Nyck de Vries’ achievements?
2023 will only be his first regular (complete) season as a Formula 1 driver. However, his junior career and career outside Formula 1 has been very successful. Apart from his many titles in karting, de Vries won Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Alps in 2014. He also won Formula 2 in 2019, and the 2020-21 edition of the Formula E World Championship.
