Last Sunday, the Washington Commanders did something that was deemed impossible for many teams by upsetting the divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, and snapped their ten-game winning streak. But could they reach the 36-33 victory if those controversial officiating calls weren’t made?

Following the upset, the Eagles fans called out the dubious officiating calls made during the game that put their opponents in favorable positions at many stances. The controversy seems to have escalated on a higher level as NFL analyst Richard Sherman highlighted similar concerns during an episode of his podcast.

Going on the vicious rant against the officials of the Eagles-Commanders game, Sherman condemned the defensive pass interference calls imposed on cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was flagged three times on Sunday, which cost the Eagles 61 yards as penalties.

The whole world is biased for offensive players. The other way, those PI calls on Lattimore were absolute horsesh*t. I’m so tired of this game getting so soft and ridiculous, and people have an audacity to complain. How are those PIs if the receiver is physical, then you have to let the DB at least defend himself?

Regardless of how oblivious people may be, the NFL has been observed to tilt its rules to favor the offensive play, in order to score more. However, by doing so, the defense is always put in a compromising position as the league is consistently shifting advantages from defense to the offense.

Eagles’ Nick Sirianni blames sloppy play for humiliating loss against Washington

While the fans and analysts seem to have blamed the officials for the loss, Philly head coach Nick Sirianni blamed the “sloppy” play by his team to break the remarkable 10-game winning streak. The game that observed penalties, drops, turnovers, and even alignment confusion, apparently gave a reality check to the Eagles as Sirianni said in post-game.

When you play a good football team like we played today, and you’re sloppy regardless of how many turnovers you force, it’s going to be hard to win. What I said to those guys is like when it’s sloppy with every piece of that, that’s always going to be on me as the head coach.

The Week 16 game already appeared gone by the hands of the Eagles when quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out with a concussion after a mere six minutes into the game. He is likely to return in the next week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
