The New York Jets expected to be in a different position through 12 weeks of the football season than 3-8. In what has been a tragically underwhelming year for both Aaron Rodgers and the franchise, there are some rough questions the team will need to answer in the off-season.

Given the state of the team, Aaron Rodgers‘ teammates, who once vehemently vouched for him, now share a reduced level of optimism. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson seemed to be indifferent when asked about the uncertainty that Aaron Rodgers is dealing with on making a return to football next season.

Wilson believed that the 2024 season was the Jets’ best shot at winning it all. While speaking at Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, he said:

Obviously I’ve really valued getting to know him over the last two years and the way I approached this season coming into it was that this was our one chance to go and get it and anything on top of that is like a cherry on top if he wants to come back but obviously it hasn’t gone how we expected it and wanted it to go but it still has been a blessing and something that I’ll value for the rest of my life.

The wideout expressed contentment over having the opportunity to play alongside a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest QBs to ever play. However, at the same time, his tone had a certain degree of regret to it because the Jets did not perform up to the expectations that were placed on them.

Garrett Wilson wants Aaron Rodgers to make the best decision for his career

Adding on, Wilson claimed that no matter what the four-time NFL MVP decides, he is satisfied with having gotten this opportunity. He also asserted that he has Rodgers’ back.

You know either way I’m fulfilled besides the fact that we haven’t won but I just want Aaron to do what’s best for him. At the end of the day, he yearns to go out on his own…whatever he wants to do, I’ll support him that’s for sure.

Garrett Wilson added

It is hard to expect the wideout to vouch for Rodgers to be back. He is on track to have the best year of his career in terms of receiving yards and touchdowns but the only stat that he cares about is winning and that is something the Jets have not been able to do.

The Jets were in a better place last season with Zach Wilson at QB around Week 12 with a record of 4-7. They went on to finish with a 7-10 record. This year the Jets are unlikely to match their previous season’s record and are on track to end with a worse win-loss statement.

With just six games left in the season, there is still little hope for them to make a late push into the playoffs as they trail behind the Dolphins by two wins.

New York will face Miami twice in the next few weeks. Each game will be a must-win scenario for this team, but there is little reason to believe that the side, which has shown such glaring inconsistencies on offense throughout the season, will suddenly turn things around at this juncture.

It is unfortunate for Davante Adams who had left the Packers after growing frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers’ future to end up back in the same situation yet again with him.
