New UNC Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick is bringing his reputation of eight Super Bowl wins and being the greatest coach in NFL history. That means, he will be joining Michael Jordan as one of the most successful sports personalities in UNC history.

He will now dive into the fire as recruitment season is in full swing. For Bill Belichick to be successful, he needs to have the right coaches around him. But more importantly, he needs recruits that can come in and help them succeed.

For that, a former Super Bowl champion suggested he will need Black coaches to help sway Black athletes. That was also the concern former NFL MVP Cam Newton had if Belichick could communicate with young players.

Bill Belichick going to Chapel Hill is the best thing for Chapel Hill since Michael Jordan. I went to New England, and I saw this firsthand. The thing about Bill Belichick that a lot of people don’t understand is he is a machine.

Cam Newton clarified that Bill Belichick may not be the best person to deal with young players. But his dedication and research on the game means he will hire people who can communicate with those younger players on his behalf. That will make UNC relevant for the first time since NBA legend Michael Jordan made the program relevant.

Close friend Nick Saban feels the same about Bill Belichick

Nick Saban retired from his long and successful tenure as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide after last season. One of the reasons for his retirement was that he was not happy with the way college football had gone, since NIL deals became a part of discussions.

He knows Bill Belichick better than anyone after being his assistant and also remained a close friend. When asked on The Pat McAfee Show how his friend will adjust to the rigors of college football, especially with NIL, Saban replied;

I’m happy for Bill. I think he probably wanted a new challenge. This is certainly gonna be a great challenge for him…. there plenty of athletic tradition there and Bill’s a great coach. Coaching the players is really not that different. I think he’ll be able to develop players.

Nick Saban said on Bill Belichick

Arguably the greatest head coach in college football history, Saban reiterated that recruitment is the biggest challenge his friend will face at UNC, as it is a lot more difficult and requires a much larger commitment from the coach to draw players in.

However, he feels Bill Belichick will eventually not have a problem with that. His reputation of being able to extract the best out of average players in the now famous Patriot way was what drew players to the organization. Nick Saban believes that should attract players to UNC.
