Bill Belichick cares more about Super Bowls than chasing the NFL’s winningest coach title
After ditching the NFL for North Carolina in college football, Bill Belichick revealed he never chased after wins, but was rather focused on winning Super Bowls.

Bill Belichick is 15 wins away from passing Don Shula as the winningest coach in NFL history. So, many were surprised when he announced that he would try his luck in college football by joining North Carolina.
Even if the last few years in the NFL were rough, considering his high standards, no one envisioned the 72-year-old taking up a job in college instead of an NFL team. However, according to Belichick, his main focus is winning championships and trophies, not counting the number of wins he has in the bag.
"It's not about wins to me, it's about championships." 🏆

Belichick’s first shot at coaching in the NFL wasn’t too successful. He was part of the Cleveland Browns setup, recording just a 36-44 in five years. The veteran HC bounced around several teams after leaving Cleveland before joining the New York Giants, where he won two Super Bowl rings.
Belichick briefly became the head coach of the New York Jets but left the post due to a conflict of interests. He agreed to become the head coach of the Jets divisional rivals, the New England Patriots, where he lifted six Lombardi Trophies. A two-decade-long tenure came to an end in 2023 as the Patriots and Belichick mutually parted ways.
Will Bill Belichick ever return to the NFL?
Football fans were left scratching their heads when not a single NFL team showed interest in hiring Belichick despite his illustrious CV. He interviewed for teams such as the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Chicago Bears, but none of those teams took a chance on him.
Circumstances pushed Belichick to make a business decision and agree to coach a college football team. That does not mean he has no lingering desire to manage an NFL team. However, for the time being, he is committed to North Carolina.
As per reports, Belichick reached out to his former team, the Jets, before moving to Chapel Hill. The Jets are among the teams that fired their head coach midway through the season. Jeff Ulbrich is currently the interim head coach. So, Belichick went for a last-gasp attempt at securing a job, but nothing happened.
