Carolina Panthers acquire No.1 overall pick in NFL Draft from the Bears in a blockbuster trade

The NFL is just days away from the start of the new league year and the teams have already begun making changes to their rosters. Moreover, one of the best ways to add talented players to their teams is by selecting them in the NFL Draft, which is just a few weeks away. And now, to kick-start the Draft activities, the Chicago Bears and the Panthers agreed to terms on a blockbuster trade involving WR DJ Moore.

In a stunning move, the Chicago Bears traded their No.1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a haul of draft picks and the star wide receiver DJ Moore. For the first overall pick, the Carolina-based football team gave up their 2023 first-round and second-round pick, their 2024 first-round pick, and their 2025 second-round pick. Besides, the Bears also received the 25-year-old wideout DJ Moore.

Just a few days ago, the Bears GM Ryan Poles reportedly said that he believes the Chicago-based football team can get 3 first-round picks for their first overall pick this year. And to be honest, he could have got it, but instead, he decided to settle for a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, if that means he can secure a reliable target for his QB Justin Fields.

And, now with their 9th overall pick, they could still draft a good edge rusher since they already have their wide receiver. Besides, they also have two first-round picks next year, an ideal draft capital for their rebuild.

The Carolina Panthers GM Scott Fitterer paid a hefty price for the No.1 overall pick, so they are certainly hoping to get their future franchise quarterback and, according to multiple reports, the Panthers are targeting the Ohio State QB, C.J. Stroud.

In addition, the Panthers are allegedly open to trading down a few spots from the 1st overall pick to get their desired QB. Currently, the Panthers only have the rookie QB Matt Corral under contract, they might add an inexpensive veteran player to act as a bridge quarterback next year.

However, it is almost guaranteed that the Panthers are to pick a QB in the upcoming draft. It is just a matter of which signal-caller they’re interested in.

Previously, there were reports suggesting that the Panthers owner David Tepper is interested in the Kentucky QB Will Levis. Nevertheless, the top three players in the 2023 draft class, Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Will Levis, are all in play for Carolina’s first overall pick.
