The Chicago Bears are having a rough week. They are making a lot of headlines for a team that is 0-2 through 2 weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season. Following their week 2 loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Bears quarterback Justin Fields made some controversial comments about play calling and coaching staff. And now, the Bears general manager Ryan Poles has taken a sly dig at Fields while addressing those comments.
“In my opinion, you got a young quarterback trying to figure it out. You have a guy who hasn’t had the cleanest start to his career,” Ryan Poles told reporters at Thursday’s press conference. “Now, he gets talent around him and has to figure out and balance when to do those cool things athletically, when to lean on others.”
However, Poles made sure to point out that no one in the organization sees Justin Fields as a “finger-pointer”. Poles said Fields always takes ownership of his on-field performances and he works well with his teammates.
“I can’t be more clear than this: No one in our entire building, none of our coaches see Justin as a finger pointer at all,” Poles said. “That kid is always taking ownership of anything that has happened on the field.”
Justin Fields and the Bears suffered a loss against the Buccaneers in week 2 of the regular season. Fields threw 2 interceptions in the game, including a fourth-quarter pick-six that sealed the deal in favor of the Bucs.
Following the second-straight loss, the dual-threat quarterback questioned the play calling during the Bears’ final drive and implied that he was being held back by the coaching staff.
Justin Fields clarifies his comments about “robotic” coaching
After Justin Fields’ comments about his coaches went viral and received backlash on social media, the Bears quarterback addressed the issue and clarified his comments.
Fields said that he didn’t blame any coach and that he would always take all the blame instead of blaming the coaches. Fields further said that he needs to play better football and he will never blame anyone else in the Bears organization ever.
Anyhow, the Bears have had a tough week after losing their defensive coordinator Alan Williams, who recently resigned to take care of his health and family. Their rough week might get rougher since they are scheduled to face the defending Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs in their next game.
