Caleb Williams prefers to pass the ball and let the receivers do the running instead him trying to run on every play.

Caleb Williams kept his promise. During USC’s Pro Day on Wednesday, he threw some accurate dimes, amidst the presence of several NFL general managers.

After refusing to take part in the NFL Combine, the NFL contingent was waiting for Pro Day to watch Williams’ much-discussed right arm. After completing his drill, he sat down to chat with FOX Sports 1′s Colin Cowherd on The Herd. He tackled questions on various subjects, but one particular answer caught the attention of social media.

Cowherd asked Caleb Williams to explain his playstyle in one sentence. The veteran sports analyst wanted to know how the 22-year-old would handle a 12-drive play. Williams’ reply was quite interesting, but nothing out of the ordinary. However, NFL Notifications on X (formerly Twitter) headlined it as a slight jab at Justin Fields. Here’s what he said: “Yeah! I don’t like running.

Not once, but twice. The second time, he gave a much longer explanation.

How about! I don't like running unless I have to.
Williams said.

But Cowherd only opted to focus on these words: “You do not like running.

It may look like it, but I don't like running. I like to throw the ball to my receivers and letting them, letting all of us having fun. It's a lot more fun to throw a 20-yard dagger route to my receivers.
Williams said.

On the surface, it does appear he is taking a dig at Fields, who is one of the few dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL. Before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the Chicago Bears, the Ohio State graduate racked up 2,220 rushing yards in three seasons, scoring 14 touchdowns.

Caleb Williams gave an update on his rumored move to Chicago

Many analysts speculate that the sacrifice of Fields to Pittsburgh for a conditioned sixth-rounder means that the Bears are confident they will be able to land Caleb Williams. They currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and he is projected to be the first player to be drafted.

Cowherd asked Williams about his thoughts on playing in the windy city.

I've heard that they [the Chicago Bears] love football. So that’s the place. I’m excited for that. The fans love football. It’s one of the biggest things that I care about—a place that cares.

They definitely care enough to let go of Fields. Bears General Manager Ryan Poles has been keeping an eye on Williams, and The Athletic reported that both he and head coach Matt Ebarflus were present at the Pro Day. Perhaps Poles is praying Williams doesn’t do an Eli.
