“WOAH”: Miami Dolphins were all set to offer minority ownership to Tom Brady before Brian Flores lawsuit ruined their plans
Tom Brady in Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The NFL world was left shocked and surprised when Tom Brady announced his return to the NFL just 40 days after retiring. He claimed that he had more unfinished business with football. It is certain that Tom Brady will play for the Buccaneers in 2022 but earlier, there were rumors of him playing for the Miami Dolphins.
Such speculations originally came to light during Brady’s retirement when it was rumored that the Dolphins would go after Sean Payton and Brady in a tandem move. Moreover, not long ago, another NFL executive said the same thing to The Athletic’s Mike Sando but for the next season.
Brian Flores lawsuit ruined Tom Brady’s plan to join Dolphins
The executive claimed that Tom Brady and Sean Payton will be with the Miami Dolphins next year in case Brady decides not to continue his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Moreover, what comes as another twist in the tale, a recent report by Pro Football Talk suggests that Brady was all set to be named a minority owner of the Dolphins.
This was supposed to happen the week before the Super Bowl, as per the report. In fact, Miami would have talked to the New Orleans Saints to complete all the legalities in order to rope in Payton as their head coach. Moreover, as reported by the Boston Globe, Miami making Brady a high-level team executive would have been the star QB’s way out of Tampa Bay.
However, all the plans were flushed down the drain because of the Brian Flores lawsuit against many NFL teams, including the Dolphins. Even Colin Cowherd stated that Flores situation was responsible for Brady not accepting the Dolphins’ offer. “The Brian Flores situation happened and the lawsuit against the Dolphins and other teams. Brady and Payton said we are not going there, it’s a mess,” he had claimed.
All the chatter around Brady’s alleged relationship with the Dolphins which eventually did not work out suggests that Brady’s decision to retire a few weeks back was indeed influenced by the Miami-based franchise. Nevertheless, everything worked out perfectly for the Bucs as they have their best QB back on the team.
