“The NFL doesn’t care enough to say this”: NFL Twitter blasts the league for the lack of black coaches in comparison to the NBA

One of the active issues that have been plaguing the NFL since its inception is the lack of inclusivity in the league. The league has a lot of black players and players from minority backgrounds, in that respect, there is no issue when it comes to representation. However, in terms of inclusivity when it comes to the coaching staff, the NFL is still in the year 1950. To date, the league barely has had a lot of coaches and executives from a minority background. The Rooney rule was introduced nearly two decades ago but it really has not done much to improvise this situation.

As per this rule, teams are required to at least interview two or more persons of color and/or women while attempting to fill an important position in their organization. The teams have already found a way around this, organizations just interview persons of minority status while they would have already decided on another coach beforehand. By merely interviewing people of color and women, teams get to evade liability as they have followed the Rooney Rule.

Half of all NBA teams now have a Black Head Coach, a situation that the NFL can only achieve in a virtual world:

The Los Angeles Lakers recently hired Darvin Ham as their Head Coach, this led to nearly half of the teams in the NBA having a Black head coach. In the NFL, the scenario is much different, apart from Mike Tomlin, Brian Flores, and Lovie Smith are the only black coaches in important positions. Tomlin and Flores are on the same team, and if you recall, Flores is even suing the NFL for discriminatory hiring practices.

They shouldn’t. That is exactly the whole point, but NFL owners believe in white privilege, directly or indirectly. Their hiring practices clearly demonstrate this.
