“Biased decision-maker” Brian Flores’ lawyers condemn NFL in their case against racial discrimination

Brian Flores was head coach at the Miami Dolphins before he got fired citing racial abuse. Flores then filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL and the Dolphins, Broncos and the Giants.

Brian Flores was also joined by veteran NFL coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton who were also citing racial abuse. They joined up with Brian Flores and the lawsuit involved three more teams – Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans.

It is rumoured that the NFL commissioner will be the arbitrator for the case. The Flores’ lawyers bashed the NFL for this decision. They stated that Goodell will not be a fair arbitrator as he is paid by all the teams and there will be a conflict of interest.

The lawyers of all three coaches stated that arbitration is required because the coaches had agreed in their contracts to multiple arbitration provisions.

If Goodell is to preside over the decision making then it will create an unfair advantage and create a new standard for arbitration that would let it be approved “no matter how biased and unfair the process is.”

“If the Court compels arbitration, scores of employers following this case, and those who learn of it, will undoubtedly change their arbitration clauses to permit the appointment of an obviously biased decision-maker,” the lawyers said.

U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni is in charge of the ruling and recently she also denied a request by the Steelers coach’ lawyer’s to gather additional evidence. This makes it evident that the arbitrator’s ruling will be given imminently.

The six teams currently involved in the lawsuit are the Denver Broncos, Giants, Titans, Texans, Dolphins, and the Arizona Cardinals. With people still coming out as victims of racial abuse, there’s no telling how many people are victims of racial abuse in the NFL.
