Now it is official that Tua Tagovailoa did not have the best of times with former head coach Brian Flores. During Flores’ time with the Miami Dolphins, a lot of negativities arose, after which he was fired. Now, as part of the Minnesota Vikings, he is trying to build his coaching career back in the NFL. One of the steps he has to take while doing that is to respond to the comments his former quarterback had for him.
The defensive coordinator knew the questions for the day would be centered around those viral comments. He took to the podium during the Vikings’ practice sessions to address the elephant in the room.
Specific to the comments made by Tua. I’m genuinely happy for the success that Tua's had. And I really wish him nothing but the best. Player relationships are very important to me. I think that's kind of the foundations of coaching. More than anything right now I’m focused on the 2024 Vikings.Brian Flores said
Flores essentially did not specifically retort or rebuff the comments made by Tagovailoa. He preferred to address them in the most diplomatic way possible.
Brian Flores‘ name came to the forefront when Tua Tagovailoa launched a scathing attack on his former head coach while on the Dan Le Batard Show. Those comments rang through the footballing world as it showed that Flores was one that was too hard on his players.
Or maybe he was too hard just on the quarterback who recently signed a major contract extension. Flores’ mismanagement during his time with the Miami Dolphins eventually led to his exit. Since then, the former Alabama star has had a resurgence.
Tua Tagovailoa could be an underdog MVP candidate this season
Since Flores left Miami, the former college football champion has turned his career around. Albeit, under the direction of Mike McDaniel, it seems he is a changed player. He has improved his statistics in each of the last two seasons. More crucially, he has gained confidence.
A confidence that helped him lead the league in passing yards last season. That also helped make him a Pro-Bowler for the first time in his career. There were times last season when Tua Tagovailoa was a part of the MVP discussions. But then, as the Miami Dolphins offense declined, so did his chance.
This season, the Dolphins and McDaniel, a keen student of the game, will likely be in the mix to be the best offense. If that happens and they hold on to their ability to consistently score, Tagovailoa might be a sleeper MVP candidate.
