Shane Lowry struggled during the third round of the 2024 Open Championship. He fired a poor 6-over-77 at Royal Troon. Lowry started the day with a two-shot lead but soon fell behind, and finished 11 holes at 7-over par without hitting a single birdie.

Shane Lowry expressed irritation after losing the lead to Billy Horschel. The torrid weather, which included wind and rain, exacerbated his challenges. Lowry voiced dissatisfaction with the course layout, asking why the tees were not pushed forward.

It was a grind. Wasn't much fun...You'd have to question why there wasn't a couple of tees pulled forward today, to be honest. You know, I think 15 and 17, like 15, 500 yards playing into that wind it's, you know, yead. They keep trying to make holes longer yet but the best hole in this course a hundred yards. So, yeah.

Shane Lowry shot a 2-under 69 in the second round of the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. He was leading the scoreboard after Round 2. He finished the round with a birdie-par-birdie streak. Lowry’s total score of 7-under par gave him a two-shot lead heading into the weekend. The 2019 Open champion is in prime position to win his second Claret Jug. However, he stands 9th on the leaderboard currently after Round 3.

The 2024 Open Championship leaderboard has seen considerable alterations following the third round. Billy Horschel leads with a score of 4-under par after shooting a superb 69 in tough weather conditions.
Daniel Brown, who had been in contention, dropped back to 3-under following a double bogey on the 18th hole.

He is presently tied with many players, including Xander Schauffele and Justin Rose. Shane Lowry, who led after the second round, struggled with a 77, slipping to one under par. Scottie Scheffler is also in contention at 2-under, setting up an interesting final round.
