In recent weeks, the Ryder Cup has become a huge talking point in the golf world. After reports emerged that U.S. players could get paid for the first time in the 2025 edition, several players and experts have shared their opinions regarding this. Ahead of the 2024 Hero World Challenge, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler made fun of this topic.
The American golfer had a fantastic year this season. He claimed seven wins this season including an Olympic gold at the Paris Games and a second Masters title in April.
As he prepares to enter the Hero World Challenge as the defending champion, he was seen talking with tournament host Tiger Woods earlier. Scheffler was asked what he and Woods had a chat about during this meet.
The 28-year-old showed off his humorous side by claiming that he and Woods talked about money. The golfer joked how he and Woods think that they have not got enough money from the competitions. He tried to keep a straight face but eventually ended up cracking up.

Apart from his seven wins, Scheffler had two runner-up finishes as well. With 16 top-10 finishes in 19 events, the World No.1 made a staggering amount of $29.2 million in 2024.
Following his victory in the FedEx Cup, he got another $25 million. As per reports from Sportico, Scheffler has so far made a total of $62 million this year.
Scottie Scheffler not going to say no to getting paid in golf tournaments
After joking about not getting paid enough, Scottie Scheffler turned serious. Speaking regarding the Ryder Cup pay drama, Scheffler said he does not play golf for money but will not say no to getting paid.
The two-time major champion said that money is just a “bonus for him“. He also claimed that the golfers are getting paid a good amount to compete in tournaments.
"I want to win just as bad for zero dollars as I do for whatever millions of dollars it is."

As of now, the board has not approved whether US players will get paid in the Ryder Cup or not. If approved, they could get around $400,000 each.
Scheffler now turns his attention to defend his title in the Bahamas this week. After that, he will team up with Rory McIlroy to take on LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in the “Showdown” event in Las Vegas on December 17. The winners of that tournament will receive $10 million in cryptocurrency as the prize.
