World No.4 Viktor Hovland has once again amazed the fans on social media, though this time with his incredible par-4 hole-in-1 shot, instead of his insane fashion on the greens. Hovland shocked himself as the crowds at Marco Simone Golf Club started their signature European chants, ‘Olé, olé, olé, olé’.
While the chants carried celebrations of his achievements, an announcer called out Hovland saying, “Wrong day, wrong day.” His masterpiece shot came a day early on Thursday, rather than the Ryder Cup eve. Fans are now expecting to see some insane performances from the No.4 throughout the Ryder Cup week.
Viktor Hovland’s performance drew both praise and criticism, as one X (previously known as Twitter) user noted, “Pretty cool, but also kinda s**ked.” While another noted, “That’s way easier than putting.” Some highly praised the golfer stating, “Hovland has been unreal lately. Beast.”
Hovland has surely turned his game around for the better, following his rough first Ryder Cup event where he scored 0-3-2 going in. For the 2023 Ryder Cup kickoff morning session, the golfer has paired up with Ludvig Aberg and will be looking forward to challenging Max Homa and Brian Harman on Friday.

“Hate is a big motivator to do well” – Viktor Hovland on competing against Team USA
Team USA and Team Europe have always been at each other’s necks during the Ryder Cup event, but World No.4 Viktor Hovland made it clear that it’s definitely not hate towards the opposition but rather “we want to do well for the people that support us.”
He did admit that “Hate is a big motivator to do well,” according to WWOS Nine report, but “we’re more motivated maybe to win for our country.” He admitted that in the 2021 Ryder Cup, he lacked the skills to call it his best efforts but now he’s confident in his shots for 2023. “There’s a belief and confidence that I can get myself out of any situation.”
Some of the confidence and skill was surely demonstrated by Hovland on Thursday during his par-4 hole-in-1 shot. Luke Donald and his team are ready to avenge the crushing defeat of 2021 at Whistling Straits. Europe will surely be relying on the heroics of the golfer’s abilities to bring the Cup back to their country.
While Team Europe seems well prepared, the same can be said about Team USA. Captain Zach Johnson stated confidently that they were ready for what was to come as he’d be letting loose the thoroughbreds on the greens. Which team will ultimately take the Cup back home is still debatable. Although the fans will probably get their answers by Sunday at most.
