The year 2023 has been a phenomenal one for Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian picked up big wins this year including being crowned the FedEx Cup winner. While he had a great individual year, he was also in great form for Team Europe as they won the Ryder Cup. The current World No. 4 now thinks he believes he should be considered the world’s best player.

The 25-year-old golfer currently trails Scottie Scheffler (No. 1), Jon Rahm (No.2) and Rory McIlroy (No.3) in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). However, he now feels he should be at the top of this list this year.

Recently he was at The Smylie Show where he spoke about this. The duo were even caught in a friendly banter regarding his chip shot at the Ryder Cup.

However, Hovland acknowledged the fact that the three above him have all played well this year. He also claimed that all of them are really good when they are playing at their best form.

"At the same time, what Scottie did, what Jon Rahm did, and how consistent Rory has played this year, I think any of us could be the best player in the world on any given week. How much does that matter? We're really, really good when we play our best".

The way the past few months have gone, there seems no stopping Viktor Hovland’s winning run. After winning The Memorial, he went back-to-back to claim the BMW Championship and Tour Championship. He even won at the Ryder Cup. His latest win though could be the most obscure one. The Norwegian extended his winning run by winning the Oak Tree National Pro Scratch Invitational.

The 2-man team event saw him claim another win on the bounce with Ian Davis. Despite a poor start on Thursday, the duo bounced back emphatically on Friday which saw them take the lead. They were able to hold off the lead and grab the win from there on.

Hovland who has won over $33.5 million this year claimed around $30,000 more with this win. While obviously, the amount numbers are significantly low compared to the professional tours, the main talking point here is Hovland’s winning.

The way he has played this year, he could be the main target man and favorite of many next season as well. Hovland who has several PGA Tour wins would now be aiming for the major championships next year. He though will first have to navigate his challengers at the Hero World Challenge in November where he will enter the field as a two-time defending champion.
