Damage CTRL has been one of the most successful women’s factions in WWE in recent times. However, the group has been through a lot recently. After Bayley was kicked out of the faction, fans were wondering about the reason behind it. One of the prominent members of the group, Dakota Kai, explained why she and Iyo Sky decided to kick the Role Model out of the faction.
Speaking on 97.7 QLZ, Dakota Kai accepted the fact that Bayley helped her and Iyo Sky establish themselves on the main roster. However, she explained that the behavior of the Royal Rumble winner started to be more controlling toward her and the Women’s Champion, which led to the breakup of the original Damage CTRL.
I am grateful to Bayley, right? She allowed me to come back to the company, she has given both IYO and I a lot of opportunities. But, I think at the end of the day, if you have a parent that is a little bit too controlling of the things you do, that is how we felt. We felt like we could do a lot more without her leash on.Dakota Kai on the break-up of Damage CTRL
Bayley was the mastermind behind the faction. At SummerSlam 2022, the Role Model brought Kai and Sky onto the main roster, taking the pair under her wing. It led to many memorable moments, which included the superstars winning the Women’s Tag titles twice. Most notably, the Genius of the Sky ended up winning the Women’s Championship under the guidance of the 34-year-old Superstar.
However, after the multi-time women’s champion won the Royal Rumble match in January, it led to some visible cracks in Damage CTRL. It all went down on SmackDown when Sky decided to kick Bayley out of the group, declaring a WrestleMania match. Now, the former leader of the faction is all set to take her redemption at WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia.
Dakota Kai on if she prefers to be a heel or a face
Dakota Kai has been a consistent performer throughout her career. For the majority of her time in WWE, she has been a bad guy. Recently, in an interview, Kai herself revealed what character she prefers to play more in her career.
In an interview with 97.7 QLZ, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion revealed that she knows how the crowd receives her. She went on to say that for her, playing a heel is a challenge. However, she feels like it is a good challenge. Although it was difficult for her to choose, she still prefers to be a heel.
To be able to play a bad guy is such a challenge for me, but I think it is a good challenge. It is such a good outlet for me. In terms of preferring one over the other, I'm not really sure because both have their perks. But, I think being a bad guy is just so fun.Dakota Kai on playing heel
The former NXT star recently turned heel after she betrayed and laid out a vicious attack on Bayley. It led to many fans wondering the reason behind that. Besides, now the fans might see a new side of the superstar after a new start for the faction as a whole. It is going to be interesting to see the role of Dakota Kai in the match between the Role Model and Iyo Sky at WrestleMania.
