“Does a s*** ton of good” Max Purcell defends Nick Kyrgios’ brash brand of play

Max Purcell and Nick Kyrgios

Max Purcell is an Australian professional tennis player. His career-high doubles ranking is world No. 25 and his top singles ranking is world No. 150. Purcell has one major title to his name which he won at this year’s Wimbledon with partner Matthew Ebden and had earlier reached two men’s doubles finals, the 2020 Australian Open final with Luke Saville and the 2022 Australian Open final with Ebden.

Max is currently playing in the Challenger Indianapolis, US in the singles category, and has reached the quarter-finals of the tournament. The Australian made a great comeback after losing the first set in his round of 16 match against Aiden Mchugh of Britain. The reigning Wimbledon champion is all set to meet Ben Shelton of the USA in his quarter-finals match on Saturday.

“Nick’s just Nick” Max Purcell defends his compatriot Nick Kyrgios for his behaviour

Max Purcell

The 24 years old is great in his speech and behaviour on and off the court which is quite opposite from his fellow countryman Nick Kyrgios who is known for his outspoken nature more importantly on the court. The difference between both of them leads everyone to believe that Purcell has no time for Nick’s noisy brand of play.

However, Purcell defended Kyrgios and argued that he “does s*** ton of good” like his charitable works through his Melbourne-based Charity, NK Foundation. “Personally, I think Nick’s great for the sport,” said Purcell, who looks upon Kyrgios’ rebellious manner as an effective form of PR. “He puts bums on seats. Every match he plays, I want to watch, especially when he plays against the top guys. Nick’s just Nick,” said Purcell.

Max continued, “He does whatever he wants, which is fine because he’s a popular person. Everyone wants to watch him, everyone wants to be like him, and it’s not every day you get to see a person like Nick who doesn’t exactly put 100 per cent in on the practice court—or even practice that much—troubling the best players in the world, and it just shows how much talent he has. He’s still, for sure, one of the most exciting players I want to watch.”
