The Norwegian World No.7 Casper Ruud‘s downfall continues as he got crashed out in the second round of the Cincinnati Open. The unseeded Australian Max Purcell got his first-ever top-10 win of his career by beating Ruud. The final score was 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. After the final appearance in the French Open, he has been totally disappointing this season.
Following the French Open, though the second-round exit in Wimbledon was covered by a final appearance in the Swedish Open, the final loss there was by a crushing margin of 6-7 (3-7), 0-6 against Andrey Rublev. It seems like the final loss in the French Open and then the Swedish Open has clearly reflected in the lost mindset of the Norwegian star.
The continuous poor show is resulting in the downfall of the Norwegian’s ranking as well. He was one win away from clinching the world number 1 ranking in the last year’s US Open. But the final loss against Carlos Alcaraz proved to be a double blow for him as he lost the chances of becoming the world number 1 as well as his first Grand Slam title.
Casper Ruud will try to be back for the US Open
The Norwegian star Casper Ruud is always known for his zig-zag performances in the Grand Slam tournaments. The story of his career lately has been following a similar pattern- Perform great in one Grand Slam, then play poor in the next one, then rise from the ashes in the next to next one. If this pattern keeps happening, we can expect a rejuvenated Ruud in the US Open.
Though clay court has been the best surface for Ruud, he always performed well in the US Open. The last year’s final appearance here was an example of that. Casper Ruud will try to re-ignite his spark in the flushing Meadows.
The Cincinnati Open loss will be a hard blow for the Norwegian since he will not be able to crack into top-4 now. Now, Ruud will be having to face top competition from the initial rounds itself. Though this will not be an ideal situation for the Norwegian star, he will be trying to be back on top for the US Open.
