Nick Kyrgios has struggled with injuries this year and has played only one competitive game. In order to recover from his injury, Kyrgios pulled out of the recently concluded 2023 US Open as well. That’s not all; the tennis professional missed all four Grand Slam events this year and will also miss Australia’s upcoming Davis Cup campaign.
The second-most successful team in the Davis Cup will play in Group B in Manchester against France, Switzerland, and host nation Great Britain. The 2022 runner-ups feature Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokkinakis, among others. In a media engagement before the start of the tournament, the Aussie players had a go at selecting their all-time fantasy Australian Davis Cup team.
The 2022 Wimbledon men’s doubles champion, Max Purcell, had an interesting pick on his team. The first pick was an easy and obvious one for all the players, as they chose Aussie legend Lleyon Hewitt.
Hewitt is the last Aussie to win a men’s singles Grand Slam title, doing it in 2001 at the US Open and 2002 at Wimbledon. Things got interesting with the second pick; while most players went for Pat Rafter, Purcell chose Nick Kyrgios. Writing ‘Pokemon Back, referring to the gigantic Pokemon tattoo on Kyrgios’ back, Purcell said that he would pick Kyrgios for his attitude.
Haha at least we know how Purcell feels about my game 😂 second of all time in Australian tennis 🙏🏽 appreciate that my boy https://t.co/FYTTCI4xi3

Quoting the video, Kyrgios shared a post on ‘X’ captioned, “Haha at least we know how Purcell feels about my game second of all time in Australian tennis 🙏🏽 appreciate that my boy.”
Kyrgios played against Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden alongside his Doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis in the final of men’s doubles at the Australian Open 2022. Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won in straight sets, becoming the first all-Australian men’s doubles champions at the Australian Open since 1997.

Nick Kyrgios shares his thoughts on Djokovic’s US Open triumph
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic scripted history on Sunday as he won a record-extending 24th Grand Slam by claiming the US Open 2023 title at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Serbian legend defeated the 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev in straight sets (6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3) in just over 3 hours to clinch his 4th US Open title and 3rd Grand Slam of the year. Djokovic avenged his loss to Medvedev in the 2021 US Open final as he became the oldest man (36) to win the US Open in the Open Era.
Djokovic received loads of congratulatory messages from across the world on his historic win. Perhaps the most significant one from the tennis world came from Nick Kyrgios. Replying to a tweet by journalist Scott Barclay on how everyone felt after Djokovic won his 24th Major title, the Aussie had a one-word response: ‘Insane’.
