Kobe Bryant lost his life on January 26 2020

On this day in 2020, not only the NBA. But the world of sports lost one of its best athletes, Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers’ legend lost his life in a devastating helicopter crash. The incident involved his daughter Gianna and 7 others. Kobe Bryant was one of the most ruthless, energetic, charming and loved players in the NBA’s history. As a respect of the love for him, the LA Lakers win onto win the 2019-20 NBA Championship to pay their tribute to the best Lakers’ player ever. 

The Los Angeles Lakers’ legend was known to take a helicopter to practice and games. And likewise, he did the same on that very day as well. Bryant and the others were on their way to participate in a basketball event. Despite the weather condition being worse than standard, the helicopter was allowed to fly.

Kobe and Gianna have been honored in many ways since their death, including with murals, dedications, jersey patches and more.

On the one-year anniversary, athletes and celebrities took time to reflect on the lives lost. 

Magic Johnson wrote a series of posts on Kobe, Gianna and the others who died in the crash. Johnson said Kobe was “a great basketball player, athlete, husband, father, philanthropist, mentor & teacher of the game to many men & women of all ages. 

After Kobe’s death, the entire NBA fraternity and players decided to pay their tribute to the LA Lakers and NBA legend by running a 24-second violation. Which was Kobe’s jersey number. 

Having played for the LA Lakers throughout his career, Kobe was and will always be one of the most loyal players in the NBA. In the year since his untimely death, the sports world has mourned the iconic NBA champion and his daughter, who had a bright future ahead of her in basketball and otherwise, as well as the others who died in the crash.
