Patrick Beverley compares European Basketball to the NBA
Patrick Beverley, a veteran guard who has played in both the NBA and European leagues, believes that there are significant differences between the two styles of play. Beverley spent three years playing overseas before joining the NBA. He notes that the team concept and sense of urgency are much stronger in European basketball.
In Europe, everyone is trying to play and fight through everything. You don't really have a lot of guys missing stuff unless it's something serious. If it's not something serious, guys are playing.Pat Beverley on his podcast Pat Bev Pod:
Beverley points out that in Europe, players are more likely to play through injuries and fatigue, as every game is important. In contrast, the NBA has a longer season, and teams may have more flexibility in terms of resting players.
Beverley concludes that the two styles of play are distinct, and it’s essential to experience both to understand the differences. He emphasizes that European basketball is more intense and competitive, with a greater sense of urgency, whereas the NBA has a more relaxed atmosphere, with more emphasis on individual talent.
