Ja’Marr Chase is on the verge of securing a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, the question is not about when he will sign it, but rather about how much he will make.

Chase has a fair idea of a number, which is far more than what his former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson is currently making. Chase spoke with the media on Friday before the Bengals’ week 1 game against the New England Patriots at Paycor Stadium.

There’s still doubt whether the 24-year-old will play against the New England Patriots because he is holding out. He did some light practice drills in the latest session, but nothing too extraneous. Chase revealed the decision to play in the opening game rests with him.

If the Bengals can settle the extension before the game, then perhaps the fans will see Joe Burrow linking up with Ja’Marr Chase on Sunday. However, the 3x Pro Bowler is playing a hard bargain. He still has 2 years left on his contract and has a cap hit of $21.8 million, according to Spotrac.

That is not even close to satisfying Chase because, in his perspective, he is the better player compared to Jefferson. Indirectly implying he deserves to be paid more than the Vikings wideout.

If I want to beat Justin [Jefferson], I'm gonna beat the s**t out of Justin. Not by a penny, brother.

Justin Jefferson’s advice for Ja’Marr Chase regarding the contract extension

Jefferson has been keeping a close eye on Chase’s development ever since he entered the NFL. Occasionally, the two players will lock horns and argue about who is better between them, but at the end of the day, both are among the top receivers in the NFL.

While Jefferson got his bag early, Chase is waiting for his turn, and while he does that, the Vikings wideout has a piece of advice for his former college teammate. He pointed out that Chase should not let the contract talks affect his game on the field.

I hope that he gets the contract that he's looking for, but I also hope that he plays it smart and not let it get in the way of, you know, his greatness and being on that field.

In three seasons at the Bengals, Ja’Marr Chase caught 407 passes for 3717 receiving yards (13.9 YPC) and 29 touchdowns in 45 games. Jefferson, on the other hand, played one year more than Chase. He caught 392 passes (less than Chase) for 5899 yards and 30 touchdowns. However, he currently holds the NFL record of 98.3 yards per game, with his best year coming in 2022—-128 catches for 1809 yards and 8 touchdowns, winning the Offensive Player of the Year award.
