The Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed right guard Zack Martin was officially ruled out of the season following a season-ending surgery due to a right ankle issue. The Cowboys after initial hiccups have picked up successive wins in the past few weeks.
Martin has struggled with a right ankle injury for most of the season and also suffered a shoulder injury. In the Nov. 18 loss to the Houston Texans, he left early due to a sprain in his other ankle. The hope was that with rest, he would recover enough to return. However, the ongoing issues with his right ankle ultimately led to the decision for surgery.
The season-ending surgery has also sprung up talks of a potential retirement as well. Martin has deflected the talks of his future on several occasions. However, in a recent conversation, Martin’s teammate Micah Parsons hinted at a potential plan.
Zack Martin is hands-down one of the most celebrated athletes to don the Cowboys patch. He has been selected for the Pro Bowl nine times in his first 10 years and named All-Pro seven times. In Dallas Cowboys history, only four players have more Pro Bowl selections.

Martin was the only rookie named a first-team All-Pro and the first Cowboys rookie to achieve that honor. The only year he didn’t make the Pro Bowl was in 2020 when he missed seven games due to a concussion and a calf injury.
Dallas HC Mike McCarthy heaps praise on Zack Martin amid season-ending injury
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy paid his compliments to the right guard while confirming his season-ending injury. McCarthy, however, didn’t alleviate any fears or rumors regarding whether the world has seen the man for the last time in the NFL.
McCarthy admitted that they would never replace or be able to replace Zack Martin at the Cowboys. He went on to commend his leadership as well.
The Dallas Cowboys will face the mighty Cincinnati Bengals, who hold one of the highest PPGs in NFL history for a losing team. In Martin’s absence, the Cowboys will utilize players like Brock Hoffman and T.J. Bass to step into his role at right guard. Hoffman appeared in three games this season, producing two of the Cowboys’ best results.
