The San Francisco 49ers are enduring a forgettable season, with their latest loss to the Los Angeles Rams highlighting player-related issues involving De’Vondre Campbell—a situation that left teammate Charvarius Ward visibly unhappy.
Campbell signed with the 49ers this offseason as a backup for injured star linebacker Dre Greenlaw. He started 12 games in the process and was part of a 49ers defense that was not up to the mark. That meant, whenever Greenlaw returned, he would slot back into his position.
Ahead of the TNF game against the Rams, the 49ers cleared Dre Greenlaw to play. That meant De’Vondre Campbell was relegated to a reserve role and had to warm the bench. Greenlaw played the first half but struggled with fatigue.
That prompted the coaches to ask his veteran teammate to get ready to go back in. Instead of doing his job, De’Vondre Campbell left the locker room and did not return. It seemed to hurt his teammates more who were not appreciative of this reaction, as Charvarius Ward explained to reporters after the game.

Charvarius Ward mentioned that not only was Dre Greenlaw unable to continue, but another linebacker could also not play due to injury. That left the 49ers thin at that spot, suggesting he did not keep the team first.
George Kittle sounds off on De’Vondre Campbell
At a time when they were expected to fight for the playoffs, the San Francisco 49ers needed everything to win this close game to the Los Angeles Rams. But instead, they lost to two second half field goals in that close game.
Who knows if De’Vondre Campbell had suited up, they may have been able to stop the Rams from scoring those points. Even if he didn’t cause their loss, teammate and vocal leader George Kittle expressed his disappointment.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan was not happy about this from his player as well. Based on what the three said, they will likely cut him. With a seemingly lost season, the 49ers need players to be all-inclusive if they are to return to their winning ways next year.
