Over the past two decades, the American football franchise Philadelphia Eagles has been through many ups and downs. It’s one of the oldest NFL teams, founded in 1933 after a conglomerate of Philadelphia-based businessmen purchased the defunct Frankford Yellow franchise. With a total record of 28 playoff appearances to date, the Eagles have made it to the Super Bowls only three times.

In the initial days of the franchise, they went through a struggling period, where they barely won one or two games in seven out of 10 NFL seasons. Their transition to a strong Super Bowl contender came with the hiring of coach Earle Neale, back in 1941. Under Neale, the Eagles made it to the NFL championship game in 1947, featuring star running back Steve Van Buren. In the following years 1948 and 1949, the Eagles came home with NFL titles.

However, blinded by their consecutive victories, the Eagles couldn’t keep up in the mid-50s, when they hardly finished the second half of the league. In the ’60s, with quarterback Norm Van Brocklin and diminutive flanker Tommy McDonald along with linebacker Chuck Bednarik, the team regained its strength leading to the third NFL championship with a 17-13 against the Green Bay Packers.

Today, the Eagles are known as one of the strongest and most recognized franchises, in recent years. All because of their multiple playoff appearances and turnarounds. The Eagles have won the Super Bowl only once in the 2017 postseason. They were close to gaining a spot in 2022, but unfortunately, they got knocked out in the Wild Card Round over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Later on, for the Super Bowl LVII, the Eagles were a strong contender to bring the trophy home, but the Kansas City Chiefs claimed victory over them.
