Tom Brady and HC Bill Belichick helped the New England Patriots become the greatest NFL team of all time. They won six Super Bowls during their tenure and dominated almost every year. However, a couple of their conference and Super Bowl wins are extremely controversial, one of which is the Spygate controversy that still hasn’t died down.

It occurred during the 2000s decade and also comprised the 2004 AFC championship game between Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. The former OT Barrett Brooks was a part of that game for Steelers and spoke recently about the infamous scandal. Brooks featured on the ‘Legal Hands to the Face’ podcast and spoke extensively about the controversial game that led to many fines and punishments for the Brady-led Patriots.

“They knew the plays before we did,” Brooks said. “I could hear all those guys, Rodney Harrison said, Draw, Draw, Draw and Ben comes in and calls the play. I’m like what’s going on. They’re gonna sprint to the right and moved their entire defense over. Because they knew our play before it happened. They cheated me out. I should’ve had two Super Bowls.”

The NFL later levied heavy fines on the Patriots for the alleged Spygate scandal. A $500,000 fine was levied on Belichick while the Patriots organization had to pay another $250,000. Additionally, they were also deprived of their 2008 first-round draft pick.

Tom Brady has had a controversial rise to greatness involving two major incidents, the Spygate scandal, and the Deflate-gate Super Bowl controversy. However, Barrett Brooks believes that Spygate is one of the biggest scandals in NFL history.

Barrett Brooks was extremely furious with the Patriots who used improper means to beat them in the AFC championship game. It is speculated that the Tom Brady-led Patriots were ‘spying’ on the Steelers four weeks before the game actually happened.

They had secret cameras recording all their practice sessions. Interestingly, the Steelers also followed the same pattern that was bringing them results.

However, that didn’t work out against the Patriots as they knew all their plays before they happened. The Patriots were caught for their offense in the year 2007, it is believed that the New England-based teams continued to use their spying means until then.

However, one can never know for sure as neither Tom Brady nor the Patriots have confirmed anything regarding the controversy. Currently, it’s just a battle of assumptions between them.
