The NFL is set to bid goodbye to Bill Belichick as the former head coach is set to resume that role, but with UNC. After several discussions and interviews and back-and-forth communications, the 72-year-old is looking towards spending a few years in North Carolina.
Earlier reports stated that Bill Belichick agreed to become the head coach, leaving them to finalize a few details. The long-time head coach had become the topic of the hour as analysts debated if he was the right fit.
Then some questioned his relationship with young athletes, which they felt could hinder any chances of him becoming successful. However, the UNC seemed to have thought it through before interviewing Belichick. UNC chancellor Lee H. Roberts provided an update on their official Tar Heels website.
The website also revealed that both sides have agreed on a five-year deal. However, it still needs approval from the University’s Board of Trustees and Board of Governors. With the discussions going on for some time, it seems that approval should come in shortly. Now Belichick will have to assemble his staff.
Bill Belichick pulls in Michael Lombardi as GM
Heading into college football, Bill Belichick was sure to pick people who he trusts. His son Steve Belichick will eventually take over after his father calls it quits. But other than that, Michael Lombardi revealed another marquee hire by UNC on VSiN.
Michael Lombardi will leave his hosting duties of The Lombardi Line and the GM Shuffle podcast on VSiN. He will take over as GM of UNC and overlook recruiting and NIL. This means he gets to work with Bill Belichick again as the duo set to take the Tar Heels program to the next level.

This could indicate that the eight-time Super Bowl winning coach might bring in a few others who have worked with him in the past. With many of his former assistants out of a job, it may not surprise many if they bring their NFL experience to UNC.
