Bill Belichick, now 72, has been waiting patiently for another NFL opportunity since losing his job at the end of last season. In the meantime, he has stayed active, contributing to ESPN and NFL Network. However, the spotlight is now on him as rumors swirl about his interview for the head coaching job at UNC.

It was initially reported that the Tar Heels program interested the 72-year-old, and he appeared for a couple of interviews. Often known for his hard-nosed approach, many, including his former players, felt it was not a good fit.

What complicated matters was that Belichick’s friend, former assistant and legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban called it quits when NIL deals dominated recruiting. Many felt those things would deter Bill Belichick from approaching college jobs.

It seems he had every intent of trying for the job, after claiming on The Pat McAfee Show that he would make it a player pipeline for the NFL. The ball was still in his park when asked if he was serious about becoming a head coach in college football. Insider Ollie Connolly revealed the latest stance from Belichick.

Update: Belichick has agreed to become the next UNC coach. Belichick handed the school a 400 page “organizational bible” with structure, payment plans, staffing choices etc. decisions on whether to commit with UNC. He is expected to know their decision within 24 hours.

This revelation means the eight-time Super Bowl winning coach has cleared his intentions of becoming head coach of the UNC. But the details also indicate that the former New England Patriots HC has given the university a list of what he wants from them.

Bill Belichick wants guarantee for son Steve Belichick

The 400-page ‘organizational bible’ Bill Belichick handed to the head honchos of the University of North Carolina includes details of how he wants the program to work if he was to get the job. But one more crucial element in that dossier was the inclusion of his son, Steve Belichick.

Per sources, I’m told Bill Belichick’s negotiations with North Carolina include a guarantee that Stephen Belichick will be named the school’s head coach in waiting. UNC is open to that guarantee. Discussions are not a bid to gain leverage for NFL offers and BB is open to the move.

This is probably senior Belichick’s way of ensuring his older son has a future as a coach. Steve Belichick left the Patriots alongside his father and is currently the defensive coordinator with the University of Washington.

If this deal were to happen, the younger Belichick can rejoin his father. Then he can continue to take over the program once his father hands over the reins. The Belichicks are doing all they can to continue making football their family occupation.
