Jahmyr Gibbs got a dream start in the NFL Draft, where he was drafted 12th overall by the Detroit Lions this year. Many believed the 21-year-old RB wouldn’t get picked until day 2.

However, the Lions had something else planned and took a risk by drafting Gibbs so early in the NFL draft. Gibbs was the second-best RB in the draft after Bijan Robinson, who got picked 8th overall by the Atlanta Falcons.

Gibbs’ draft announcement was met with conflicting responses and many thought that the Lions did not do good business by drafting him so early. Regardless, the Lions rookie is confident in his abilities and had a firm reply ready for everyone doubting his abilities.

The Georgia Tech alumni was asked about his thoughts regarding the criticism he had received from the media after getting drafted 12th overall. Gibbs was firm in his assessment and answered the question with utmost confidence.

“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion, I really don’t care,” Jahmyr Gibbs said, via the Detroit News. “It feels great to be a part of something special. Going up, moving forward, it’ll be fun to watch.”

Gibbs has all the potential to be the best RB prospect in the NFL, as he had a great standout season with the University of Alabama. Sadly, the RB position doesn’t get much appreciation, and even the quality players are pushed down in the draft. Robinson and Gibbs were the only RBs who were picked in the 1st round.

The Detroit Lions always figure out a way to get their hands on a quality RB. Before Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions had Jamaal Williams, who later departed in favor of the New Orleans Saints.

However, after that, they had De’Andre Swift, who later was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now the Lions have an incredible opportunity to nurture an exceptional talent like Gibbs, who will be running routes alongside David Montgomery.

The Detroit-based team relies a lot on their RBs to push themselves forward, and Jahmyr Gibbs can be instrumental for them. Gibbs had his standout season with Georgia Tech, where he rushed for 1,624 yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. These stats and his exceptional confidence make him the perfect candidate for a star of the future with the Lions.
