DETROIT STAND UP! The city is headed to the Conference Championships for the first time since the 1991 season. The Detroit Lions beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Jahmyr Gibbs, the rookie running back, truly showed up and showed out in the Lions’ victory tonight. He ended the game with 74 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry, and had one touchdown. He showed off his excellent route running skills, along with elite athleticism, on his 31-yard breakout touchdown run.

The touchdown came at a time when the score was tied in the 4th quarter, the Lions desperately needed to get a play that would help them score and Gibbs delivered. His play did not just get them the lead, but ended up bringing back the life at Ford Field Stadium.

Jahmyr Gibbs has had an immediate impact on the Lions’ offense this season

Gibbs seamlessly ran through the entire Buccaneers defensive line and managed to read the coverage early on. After he had the defensive line convinced that he was rushing toward the left, he switched his route and began to run toward the right. At this point, Antoine Winfield Jr. was the only Buccaneer left to cover the entire mid-field.

Gibbs bumped the speed up at this point and easily reached the endzone, thereby scoring. This season, Gibbs has been a phenomenal addition to the Lions’ offensive. He has a total of 182 carries, the 28th highest in the NFL for a total of 945 yards, which is the 17th highest in the NFL, and he has 10 total touchdowns this season.

With this win, the Detroit Lions will prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Conference championships next week. This team cannot be counted out and could very well go on to make the Super Bowl.

It has been a phenomenal year with the Lions and Michigan Wolverines winning consistently. However, when it comes to basketball, it has been a disappointing year as the Pistons are struggling.
