Things appeared to have gotten quite heated when the Detroit Lions and New York Giants gathered for the joint practice session this Monday morning. It seemed to have erupted from a brawl between the Lions’ Amon-Ra St Brown and Giants’ Dru Phillips, which later encompassed the majority of the players throwing punches at each other.

Broadly covered by the Giants, the star receiver St Brown was connecting with starting quarterback Jared Goff on a pass. As the ball was thrown, Phillips draped over the Lions’ receiver who shrugged off the cornerback and caught the ball. However, the rookie didn’t like his opponent’s attitude towards him and then went on to punch the ball out of St Brown’s hands.

The situation got worse when the audience demanded a fight from Phillips after he was shoved by the wide receiver. Seeing their star receiver surrounded by Giants, fellow Lions players joined in the brawl resulting in a huge fight breaking out in the middle of the field. Fortunately, no player sustained any injuries because of it.

While addressing the matter at the press conference later on, quarterback Goff admitted that this wasn’t the first time any such fight at the training camp happened arguing that these things happen and what’s important is being with your team in such situations.

Amon-Ra St. Brown’s passion shines through his lucrative extension

If there’s one thing that St Brown doesn’t lack is passion and the Monday brawl is just another example of that. After landing one of the highest-paid $120 million deals in the league, the Lions showed that they value him as one of the most talented wide receivers in the league and thus, made sure to keep him on a long-term basis.

The way that he [Amon-Ra St Brown] is, in the weight room and on the field, are very similar in my experience with Aaron Donald. Like, it is business, business, business. He works harder than everybody.,
Jared Goff said during a conversation with ESPN last year in October

Even though the Pro Bowler receiver doesn’t have the advantage of being the fastest or tallest receiver in the league, he makes sure that he is the hardest-working one.
