Former Colombian F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has shared his thoughts on Red Bull’s unwillingness to sign Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard departs the Maranello-based team and is set to join Williams Racing in 2025.
Carlos Sainz is one of the most competitive drivers currently in Formula 1. He was a part of Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso (RB), where he raced alongside Max Verstappen in 2015. Rumors have since floated that the Milton Keynes-based team might be keen to reacquire the services of the Spaniard.
Juan Pablo Montoya, however, feels that the reigning champions will not sign Sainz as it causes distress within the team. The 30-year-old would handsomely challenge Max Verstappen, which would not be ideal for the team.
With Ferrari in contention for the constructors’ title, it is now Sainz’s aim to deliver a good performance in the final race of the 2024 season. His efforts could well be the differentiator in edging the Maranello-based team past McLaren in the standings.
Carlos Sainz’ take on Ferrari’s chances ahead of his final race for the team
Ferrari arrives into the final race weekend of the season trailing the leaders, McLaren, by 21 points in the title race. Carlos Sainz has since shared an honest assessment of the team’s chances ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP.
Sainz believes it will be difficult for the Maranello-based team to bridge a 21-point gap to the Papayas. The 30-year-old nevertheless believes that his team will give their best shot in order to fight all odds against them.
McLaren has been one of the fastest teams with the best tactics all season long in the championship. The Woking-based team topped the times in FP3, which will now be even more encouraging for them heading into qualifying.
