Chelsea went in to the game against Everton with a chance to be table toppers for a day for the first time since December 2021. This required Liverpool to drop points against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to win its game against Everton.

However, Enzo Maresca‘s Blues failed to prevail over its opponents, which resulted in the game ending in a 0-0 draw. Even though many expected the Blues to continue the winning streak of nine wins in the last nine games, Sean Dyche‘s men successfully held the title contenders at bay.

To begin with, Jordan Pickford deserves a lot of credit for keeping out several chances created by the visitors. The English shot-stopper kept out Nicolas Jackson twice while Robert Sanchez also stood tall to deny Everton.

Following the game, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca have his verdict on the result, with his tone hinting at dissatisfaction with the attacking department.

If you are able to be clinical and score, then the game is probably different. But until that moment, you are going to struggle.

With the result, Chelsea is now in second position with 35 points from 17 games. Avoiding such results and the Liverpool dropping points will likely go a long way for the Blues.

Chelsea keeper ‘happy’ with 0-0 result vs Everton

Even though Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration with the lack of goals scored by his team, keeper Robert Sanchez differed significantly in his opinion. Speaking to the press after the game, the Spaniard said that he is ‘happy’ with his performance.

The goalkeeper’s performance was particularly highlighted because he made important saves throughout the game. In particular, the Spaniard was lauded for his quick reactions to shots attempted by Orel Mangala and Jack Harrison.

Chelsea’s No. 1 has come under significant criticism this season for making several errors leading to goals. However, Sanchez has constantly been backed by Maresca, who has no plans of replacing him or bringing in a new keeper.

Following the game, Sanzhez confidently spoke to the press and took pride in the result, even though fans and players were frustrated.

We got one point, we’re happy with the performance. I enjoy these games, but today we fought well.

Robert Sanchez told the press

Chelsea’s next games in the Premier League in 2024 are against Fulham and Ipswich Town. Slipping further will likely prevent the club from challenging Liverpool for the EPL.
