In the last few years, Donovan Mitchell has established himself as one of the top stars in the league. Mitchell is the main guy for the Cleveland Cavaliers and carries the team on his shoulders through the regular season and the playoffs. Despite having great offensive abilities, Mitchell has not had enough playoff success in his career.
Recently, Donovan Mitchell appeared as a special guest on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast. There, he discussed the hierarchy of the league’s top 10-15 players. Mitchell mentioned how he has a different view on his NBA career compared to NBA critics and analysts.
Realistically, I look at myself as one of the Top 10, Top 15 players in this league, but I haven't made it to a conference finals, so, in order for me to make that jump, I can sit here and get mad and use it as fuel, but I can't get mad at the list 'cause it's an accolade-based world we live in, whether it's right, wrong or indifferent.Donovan Mitchell via 7PM in Brooklyn
Throughout his career, ‘Spida’ has made the postseason seven times. Out of that, he has reached the second round only three times. In the last season, Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the champions Boston Celtics in the second round of playoffs. Mitchell has come close to making the Conference finals many but has failed always.
Donovan Mitchell, at just 28 years old, has recently entered his basketball prime. He showcased his skills last season by posting impressive numbers, averaging 26.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 6.1 rebounds. In the past few seasons, Mitchell has proven himself as one of the premier shooting guards in the league, standing alongside Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards.
The Cleveland Cavaliers see Donovan Mitchell as a franchise player
After LeBron James departed from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team experienced a downturn in performance as they were unable to replicate the same winning record achieved during James’ tenure. However, in 2022, the Cavaliers made a significant acquisition of Donovan Mitchell, and since then, the team has displayed considerable potential in the Eastern Conference.
The Cavaliers recently extended Donovan Mitchell’s contract to a three-year, $150.3 million deal. The franchise confidently views Mitchell as their next star player, despite his playoff shortcomings. The deal locks Mitchell in with the Cavaliers until the 2026-27 season.
Despite Spida’s on-court excellence the supporting cast around him is not consistent which was evident during this year’s playoffs. The Cavaliers will be aiming to make a significant run in the upcoming season and further make some noise in the playoffs.
