Unlike last season, the Philadelphia Eagles do not have tough competition in the divisional title contention, though they still need to beat the Dallas Cowboys to clinch the NFC East title and make a splashing entry in the playoffs. The two are set to face off against each other at Philly’s home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

While the Cowboys are seeking a victory for pride in the upcoming divisional matchup, the stakes are high for the Eagles– who are hoping to clinch the No. 2 seed in the NFC along with the NFC East title. They would have already secured the title to their name if only Washington Commanders hadn’t outperformed them last week, following quarterback Jalen Hurts’ concussion of the opening quarter.

While the Eagles are coming off a loss against divisional rival Washington, the Cowboys recorded two back-to-back victories in their past two games despite being eliminated from the playoffs contention a week earlier. While the rivalry matchup may not hold the same significance as it did earlier in the season, fans can hardly take their eyes off the field whenever these two clash.

Why the Philadelphia Eagles can win?

The Eagles may be without their starting quarterback, but the strong offensive line remains intact despite breaking their 10-game winning streak last week. Kenny Pickett, who is covering for Hurts until he returns, will have star Saquon Barkley to make things easier on the field. Barkley has been the focal point of the Eagles’ strong offense, which is ranked among the top 10 in the league.

With two games left in the season, he is aiming to surpass the mark of 2,000 yards in a single season and fortunately, the Week 17 game is against one of the worst run defenses in the league, the Cowboys.

Why can the Dallas Cowboys win?

To secure a win, the Cowboys must establish a strong ground name to keep the Eagles’ defense honest. If they could effectively run the ball, they could control the clock and create better opportunities for play-action passes.

The defense needs to step up dramatically, especially against the Eagles’ rushing attack led by Barkley. The Cowboys’ run game is ranked among the poorest in the league, that’s why, they need to focus on stopping the run and forcing the Eagles into somewhat predictable situations to continue their winning streak.
