Billy Horschel at the Open Championship 2024

Billy Horschel made news when he led the 2024 Open Championship after 54 holes. The event took place at Royal Troon, and Horschel was ecstatic about the chance to win his first major championship. He fired a respectable 69 in the third round, one stroke ahead of the field.

Despite his remarkable career, he has only two top-10 performances in the majors. He conveyed his commitment by saying, “I’ve worked my entire life to be in this position” and envisioning himself as the champion. However, he has made the cut in four of his last five tournaments.

In the final round, Horschel had stiff opposition, notably from Xander Schauffele, who recorded a bogey-free 65. Horschel finished well, scoring birdies on the final three holes to tie for second place with Justin Rose and finish the tournament at -4.

While he did not win the Claret Jug, he was the Open’s runner-up and collected $1.759 million. The event had a record total purse of $17 million, with the winner receiving $3.1 million.
