I’m really happy to see Sinner at number one in the world. I love his style of play and also his personality. You can’t see any weaknesses in his game, he’s strong from all sides. He seems very focused and composed and I love watching him play

Ana Ivanovic told Gazzetta dello Sport

Sinner has had a tremendous 12 months on the ATP tour. He had a strong second half last year, winning his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto and two ATP 500 titles in Beijing and Vienna. At the ATP World Tour Finals, he finished as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic.

The 22-year-old managed to get revenge for that defeat to Djokovic by beating him in the Davis Cup, which Italy won.

This season, Sinner has only gotten stronger with every tournament. He began his season by clinching his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev in a five-set final. He then won his second Masters 1000 title in Miami, along with two more titles in Rotterdam and Halle.

With Halle title in the bag, Jannik Sinner looks forward to Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner, who took over the top spot in the rankings from Novak Djokovic earlier this June, celebrated his first tournament victory as the World No. 1 at the Halle Open recently.

Sinner defeated Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(8), 7-6(2) in the Halle final to clinch his maiden grass court title He has shown tremendous form this season, having lost just three defeats since the turn of the year: twice to Carlos Alcaraz (French Open and Indian Wells) and once to Stefanos Tsitsipas (Monte-Carlo).

Sinner will next take part in Wimbledon, which gets underway on July 1. He will be the top-seeded player at the event and will be hoping to improve on his semifinal appearance last year. If he manages to go all the way at SW19 this year, he will emulate Roger Federer in winning both the Halle Open and Wimbledon titles in the same season, a feat the Swiss Maestro accomplished in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and most recently in 2017.
