Stephen Curry admits being nervous before Olympics debut
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is widely considered the best shooter in NBA history. He is a four-time champion and was the first-ever unanimous MVP of the league. Despite his many achievements, Curry has yet to win an Olympic gold medal. This year, USA Basketball assembled one of the most stacked teams in the sport’s history and Curry was named on the roster.
Stephen Curry represented USA in his Olympics debut few days back against Serbia. The 36-year-old star is no stranger to performing at the biggest stage. After the game, Curry admitted that he felt pregame butterflies when he was about to make his debut in the Olympics.
I think I had a lot of nerves up until the national anthem. It's a really cool environment in there. Obviously it was sold out to the nosebleeds and the energy was great. Putting on this jersey at this level, I've been looking forward to it for a very long time.Curry told the San Francisco Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick
On his debut, Curry had a decent game where he scored 11 points and made four of his eight shots which included 3 from the deep. Steph had a slow start to the game and created a turnover in the first few seconds of the game. He watched both LeBron James and Kevin Durant take over the game in impressive fashion.
Curry had the opportunity to play in the 2016 Olympics but passed it due to the Warriors’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. He has previously competed in the World Championships for Team USA. Despite a quiet performance in those games, he will be ready for his next matchup on the main stage of the Olympics.
Stephen Curry enjoys reunion with Kevin Durant for Team USA
NBA fans were excited to see Stephen Curry debut in his first ever Olympics. Curry seemed to enjoy every bit of his debut and also had the chance to reunite with his former Warriors teammate Kevin Durant.
Team USA had a great game, coming off a victory with a final score of 110-84. Both Curry and Durant shared many moments together on the court. Curry had a decent game, while Kevin Durant was nearly unstoppable in his Olympic return, making almost all of his shots and being the leading scorer for Team USA.
USA are certainly the favorites entering the Games with a flawless record of 5-0 in the pre-exhibition games. Curry will be aiming to win his first gold medal this Olympics.
