Aryna Sabalenka recently revealed that she learns from every loss to help her build on to a bigger goal. She spoke about the philosophy of having a short-term memory that has helped her keep things moving and move on to working for the next tournament.
After a great start to the year with a title win at the Australian Open, followed by two successive finals in Madrid and Rome, the Belarusian was hit with a shoulder injury that saw a slight dip in her form. Sabalenka missed Wimbledon and did not play in the Paris Olympics, but took part in the Canadian Open.
She reached the semifinals, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova. She next takes part in the Cincinnati Open, where she aims to put what she learned in her previous losses into practice and win the tournament.
Ahead of her first-round match at the Masters 1000 event, Sabalenka revealed that she has a good short memory that helps her move on quickly and focus on the goal ahead of her.
That [short term memory] helps to keep things moving and working hard and improving. Every loss is extra motivation to work hard and improve things, just to keep going. If you’re fighting every point and giving all you have in practice and matches you’ll have your opportunities. You just have to use them.Aryna Sabalenka told press in Cincinnati
She received a first-round bye in Cincinnati and will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round. The third seed will hope to get some form behind her before the all-exciting US Open.
Aryna Sabalenka tries to figure out a way to Final at the Cincinnati Open
Aryna Sabalenka is currently gearing up for her run at the Cincinnati Open. She has never won the tournament but has come close one too many times, having reached the semifinals in 2018, 2022, and 2023.
This year, she wants to go past the semifinals and reach the final. The third seed is one of the favorites for the title and will be hoping to put together a good run at the event.
I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get to the finals. But I don't want to focus on that. I want to take things step by step and try to bring my best tennis every time I'm on the court. If I do that, then I will be able to get that semifinal winAryna Sabalenka told press in Cincinnati
She is set to face Elisabetta Cocciaretto for the first time in her career. While Sabalenka remains the favorite to win the match, the Italian is well capable of pulling an upset.
