At the Canadian Open, she failed to go past the second round, and at the Cincinnati Open, she could not come through the qualifiers.

Osaka has said that not very worried about the losses or her poor form this year but complained that she did not feel like she was feeling good about herself physically. She explained that she hit the balls softer than before and how mentally draining it was.

It's a strange feeling, missing balls I shouldn't miss, hitting balls softer than I remember I used to. I try to tell myself, 'It's fine you're doing great. Just get through this one and keep pushing.' Mentally it's really draining through.

She has failed to reach the third round of a Grand Slam this year and will be hoping to do better at Flushing Meadows later this month.
